Tell Tale Heart Story by E. A. Poe, Lyrics & Music by A. dePrisco
As the clock struck midnight, his foot hit the stairs
Climbed them real quiet to keep the old man unawares
Opened the door to where the old man sleeps
Held up the lantern with the slightest of creaks
The old man groaned, cried out, “Who’s there?”
Opened his eyes with their vacant stare
The man peered back at that vulture eye
Knew tonight was the night the old man would die.
(He had a) tell-tale heart, tell-tale heart,
you could hear the rapid beat of the tell-tale heart (2x)
The man yelled out, jumped into the room
To finally seal the old man’s doom
Pulled to the floor, the old man cried
So the man smothered him until he died
Tell-tale heart, tell-tale heart,
he had ceased the beating of the tell-tale heart (2x)
The man pulled the corpse into the bath
Cut it into pieces, and stifled a laugh
Hid the bloodless parts under the floor
He would not be troubled by that eye anymore
The policed turned up, someone heard a scream
The man greeted them all peaches and cream
Led them to the scene of the crime,
laid out all the chairs to pass the time
He thought he had those coppers beat
Until he heard that thumpin’ under his feet
(thump, thump, thump, thump)
Tell-tale heart, tell-tale heart,
growing ever louder was the tell-tale heart (2x)
The man began to sweat and stutter,
Hoping no one else could make out the shudder
The sound grew too loud to ignore,
building into an impossible roar.
So he pulled up the boards and told what he’s done
He gave himself up, the old man had won.
(With his) Tell-tale heart, tell-tale heart,
the ever louder beating of the tell-tale heart (2x)
